Accredited Training vs NVQ & VTCT Qualifications
Choosing the right training route depends on your goals, learning style, and the time you have available. Both accredited training and NVQ/VTCT qualifications can lead you into the hair and barbering industry, but they offer very different learning experiences.
Accredited Training
Accredited training is designed to get you industry-ready through intensive, hands-on practical learning.
The focus is on developing your skills quickly while ensuring you understand not only how to perform techniques but why they work.

Every session includes ongoing assessment, allowing you to build confidence as you progress.
Our accredited courses are completely bespoke. Whether you learn quickly or prefer to take your time, your training is adapted to suit your individual needs.
There is no waiting for other students to catch up or trying to keep pace with a larger class.
Most accredited courses can be completed over a period of a few weeks to a few months, allowing you to begin your career much sooner.
NVQ & VTCT Qualifications
NVQ and VTCT qualifications are nationally recognised vocational qualifications that follow a government-approved curriculum. Because they are structured qualifications, there is a significant amount of written work, evidence gathering, and paperwork alongside the practical training.
Students must complete the required units and assessments in a specific order before they can be formally assessed.
While this provides a structured learning pathway, it can mean progress is slower.
These qualifications are often delivered in colleges or training centres, where class sizes typically range from 8 to 20 students.
This means you may need to wait for tutor support, feedback, and assessment while other students are being taught or assessed.
The pace of learning is generally determined by the course timetable and the progress of the group rather than your individual learning speed.
An NVQ or VTCT qualification usually broken down into 1,2,3 levels and takes between one and three years to complete.
Which One Is Right for You?
Both routes can help you become a professional hairdresser or barber.
The most important thing is developing the practical skills and confidence to work with clients safely and professionally. Once you have successfully completed your training, whether through an Accredited Course, NVQ, or VTCT, you can obtain professional insurance and public liability insurance, enabling you to begin working with clients.
The difference isn't about which route is "better", it's about which learning style suits you.
